Generator preventive maintenance

A generator that's only tested when the power goes out is a generator you don't actually know will work. Preventive maintenance is what guarantees availability when you need it most.

Why preventive maintenance matters

A generator set usually sits idle most of the time — and it's exactly that idle time that hides problems: a weak battery, a leak, a dirty filter, an electrical connection working loose. Without periodic inspection, those problems only show up at the worst possible moment: when utility power fails and the generator needs to pick up the load.

Preventive maintenance flips that — it inspects and tests the equipment before it needs to actually perform, while the generator is still on standby.

Electrical and mechanical inspection

Real record of a measurement performed by LAMP.

We inspect the generator set electrically (measuring parameters with a multimeter, battery condition, connections) and mechanically (oil, filters, belts, cooling), making sure it's ready to pick up the load the moment power fails.

Who needs it most

  • Operations that can't stop

Industry, businesses with cold storage/servers, hospitals and residential complexes — where a power outage means real losses.

  • Public sector

Government bodies and essential services that depend on backup power to keep running.

  • Rarely-used generators

Equipment that sits idle for months is exactly the equipment most likely to hide problems the moment it needs to kick in.

Questions about generator maintenance

What clients ask us most about generator sets.

How often should preventive maintenance be done?

It depends on the duty cycle, the accumulated running hours and your manufacturer's recommendations. A generator that only runs a weekly test and one that regularly takes load do not share the same plan. We set the interval at the first inspection, based on your equipment — not on a generic rule.

My generator starts during the test. So everything is fine?

Starting and taking load are different things, and this is the failure we find most. The engine can crank normally and the set still fail the instant real load arrives — through a weak battery, a fault in the transfer panel, or degraded fuel. A no-load test hides precisely what matters.

Do you service generators of any brand?

Yes. The electrical and mechanical inspection of a generator set is the same discipline regardless of manufacturer; what changes are the model-specific recommendations, which we check for your equipment.

What does preventive maintenance cover?

Electrical and mechanical inspection of the whole set: engine, alternator, batteries, fuel system, cooling, controls and the automatic transfer panel — the most overlooked component, and one of the likeliest to leave a client in the dark.
