00 Construction safety
NR-18 sets the occupational health and safety conditions for the construction industry — from the job site itself to lifting equipment like cranes.
NR-18 (Norma Regulamentadora nº 18), issued by Brazil's Ministry of Labor, sets administrative, planning and organizational guidelines for implementing control measures and preventive safety systems in construction industry processes, conditions and work environments. It covers everything from job-site organization to the operation and inspection of machinery and equipment — including cranes and load-lifting systems.
One of the standard's central requirements is that lifting equipment be inspected regularly by a qualified professional, with the inspection recorded — it isn't enough for the equipment to "look" fine.
Residential, commercial and industrial job sites — the standard applies to the construction site as a whole.
Any operation that moves suspended loads needs inspected equipment and a qualified operator.
Whoever contracts the work also shares responsibility for making sure the equipment used on it is compliant.

What clients ask us most about construction safety.
The standard reaches the construction industry as a whole. The size of the site changes what applies and in how much depth — it does not change whether it applies. A small site with lifting equipment carries the same lifting requirements as a large one.
It does, and this is where we see the most improvisation. Cranes, tower cranes and other lifting equipment carry inspection and technical documentation requirements — and the report is what an inspector or an insurer will ask for when something happens.
A qualified engineer, with an ART filed for that inspection. A report with no named engineer of record is paper, not documentation.
Yes. A good share of equipment on site is rented or belongs to a third party, and that does not transfer responsibility away from whoever is operating it. We inspect regardless of who owns it.
