NR-10: who must comply?

NR-10 is Brazil's regulatory standard for safety in electrical installations and services. Learn what it covers, who must comply, and what LAMP offers to keep your business compliant.

What NR-10 is

NR-10 (Norma Regulamentadora nº 10), issued by Brazil's Ministry of Labor, sets the minimum requirements and conditions to keep people safe when working on electrical installations and services, at any stage — generation, transmission, distribution or consumption. Its purpose is to prevent accidents such as electric shocks, arc flashes and electrical fires.

It applies both to those who install and maintain electrical systems and to companies that have electrical installations in their operations, regardless of size.

Who must comply

  • Businesses with electrical installations

Industrial, commercial and public-sector sites with power panels, generators and internal grids — the standard applies to the workplace, not only to electricians.

  • Professionals who work with electricity

Electricians and maintenance teams working on electrical installations need specific training in the standard to do the job safely.

  • Companies hiring electrical services

Whoever contracts electrical maintenance or installation work also shares responsibility for making sure it's carried out in compliance with NR-10.

What LAMP offers

Questions about NR-10

What clients ask us most about electrical safety.

Does my company really need NR-10?

If you have workers who interact with electrical installations and services — directly or indirectly — NR-10 reaches your operation. It is not the preserve of heavy industry: retail, hotels, hospitals and public bodies fall under it for the same reason.

Is the training just classroom theory?

It should not be. The training is part theory, part practice, and the practical half is what actually changes behaviour in the field. A classroom on its own produces a certificate; what protects the team is having rehearsed the procedure before needing it.

Does training the team make us compliant?

It gets you halfway. NR-10 covers the people and the installation: records, control measures, equipment condition. A well-trained team operating a non-compliant installation is still exposed — and so is the company.

Do you deliver training and fix the installation too?

Yes, and it is why most clients call us. We run the training and the electrical remediation under the same engineer of record, so there is none of that gap where the trainer flags the problem, leaves, and nobody carries out the fix.
